Batrun

The Batrun is held annually in late February or March on an evening around the full moon for those who enjoy the magic of the mountain at night with a group of like-minded folks. Non-competitive, party-mood, good time to be had by all. The event is the only night run/walk within Table Mountain National Park. The challenge of this event is to ascend the three summits (Devils Peak, Maclears Beacon and Lions Head) in the dark in a special atmosphere that exists on the mountain at night above the city. 30km 2250m D+ RACE CUT-OFF - 10 HOURS AID STATIONS - 2 2-3 MARCH 2024 - 7PM - 5AM START FINISH - GARDENS RUGBY CLUB ROUTE DESCRIPTION Batrun will be marked with reflective flags. The event starts at the Gardens Rugby Club at 19h00. It heads up Deerpark via the Plattekilp Wash Houses to Tafelberg Road where it connects to the Saddle Path of Devils Peak. Up and down Devils Peak to return to Tafelberg Road. Run along Tafelberg Road to the base of Platteklip Gorge. (Aid Station - drinks and food) The route continues to the top of Platteklip, along the southern path to Maclears Beacon, and back down to the base of Platteklip again. (Aid Station - drinks and food) Follow Tafelberg Road to the Kloofnek parking lot. Cross the traffic circle and follow the road to Lion's Head (no marshals, please cross the road carefully!). Take the path on the left that spirals clockwise around Lions Head to the top and back to the parking lot at Kloof Nek the way you came. From Tafelberg Rd, runners continue to the jeep track junction above Molteno Drive, taking a left at the junction heading down onto Molteno Drive and an immediate right onto Rugby road. Follow the route markers along the road back to Gardens Rugby Club.
