Race Description
The Recce Raid is an epic MTB or Trail Running adventure that will take you to the boundaries of physical and mental toughness while enjoying the wonders of nature and being human. It takes place in the Eastern Escarpment and mountainous areas of Mpumalanga in South Africa.
The Raid Raid passes through iconic and unique landscapes, including the Highlands, the Helvetia, Kaapschehoop, Berlin, Elandshoogte and other plantations and natural forests, Donkerhoek in the Kwena Basin, the upper Crocodile, Elands and Komati rivers with Noord Kaap and Suid Kaap tributaries with countless waterfalls, idyllic and remote valleys and gorges, and more.

MTB Raid 400 | 10K: 430 km with 10 000 m vertical, starting outside Ngodwana on THURSDAY 4 May 2023 at 09h00
MTB Raid 200: 200 km with 4 000 m vertical starting in Kaapsehoop on FRIDAY 5 May 2023 at 11h00
MTB Raid 70: 70 km Marathon starting in Dullstroom on SATURDAY 6 May 2023 at 09h00
MTB Raid 40: 40 km Half Marathon starting in Dullstroom on SATURDAY 6 May 2023 at 10h00
Trail Running events:
Trail Raid 160: 160 km | 4 000 m vertical 100 Miler, starting in Kaapsehoop on THURSDAY 4 May 2023 at 17h00
Trail Raid 100: 100 km | 3 000 m vertical, starting at Elangeni N, Waterfall Under on FRIDAY 5 May 2022 at 09h00
Trail Raid 60: 60 km ultra-marathon starting in Dullstroom on SATURDAY 6 May 2023 at 06h00
Trail Raid 30: 35 km sub-marathon starting in Dullstroom on SATURDAY 6 May 2023 at 08h00
Trail Raid 6 | 12: 6 & 12 km sprinting events starting in Dullstroom on SATURDAY 6 May 2023 at 12h00
All Recce Raid events finish in Dullstroom with the cut-off times between 12h00 - 17h00 on SATURDAY 6 May 2023.
All marathon and long events will be self-navigated by means of GPS devices on pre-issued GPX route files. Participants in the MTB Raid 70 | 200 | 400 and Trail Raid 60 | 100 | 160 events are self-navigating with GPS devices (or map with compass).
The MTB Raid 40, Trail Raid 6 | 12 | 30 routes will be marked and participants can complete these events without any GPS devices.
